CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME TREATMENT

In most cases Carpal Tunnel can be treated with us here at Action Rehab Hand Therapy Clinic with nonsurgical therapy. Our therapists will work with you to create a custom thermoplastic waterproof orthosis that will hold your wrist still and can relieve some symptoms. In some cases surgery may be the best option if your symptoms do not respond to other treatments.

Caught early, carpal tunnel syndrome can be managed to make sure it does not esclate. Some simple tips that you can do at home if you feel some of the symptoms of Carpal tunnel include:

  • Take frequent breaks to rest your hands, if you are typing, etc.
  • Avoid any activities that increase your pain or make it worse.
  • Apply cold packs, this will help with inflammation and swelling.

Before the surgery, we make sure you know what you can expect from it. After the surgery, we prepare and then implement your hand rehabilitation program, which can include:

  • Orthotics/Bracing/Splinting
  • Massage
  • Joint Protection
  • Education
  • Strengthening

Aims of post-surgical rehabilitation from carpal tunnel

  • To maximise your hand function
  • To prevent sensitivity and joint stiffness following surgery
  • To learn tendon gliding exercises to prevent the tendons from sticking to the scar
  • To facilitate scar mobility and normal palm function
  • To promote muscle mobility
