COMMON HAND ARTHRITIS CONDITIONS WE TREAT

DIP and PIP Joint Arthritis

This is characterised by painful, stiff and achy fingers caused by degeneration of the joint.

Ulnar Drift

This may be due to the presence of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). RA can cause the erosion of tendon and joint cartilage and results in your fingers being pulled towards your little finger (ulna side) of your hand.

Swan Neck Deformity

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Mallet Finger injuries are the most common cause of a Swan Neck deformity as the hyperextended PIP becomes degenerate.

Wrist Arthritis

Also known as Lateral Epicondylitis is inflammation of the tendon that extends the wrist. Tennis elbow patients can present with stiffness, difficulty of movement, pain and weakness when performing simple gestures or actions such as opening jars, shaking hands or opening doors.

Finger Arthritis

This can occur due to different reasons. Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is caused by the body attacking itself, while Osteo Arthritis (OA) is a result of wear and tear. Both types cause pain, swelling, and cartilage degeneration. Thumb Arthritis

This is a common condition that can cause significant pain in the carpometacarpal joint. Symptoms include a painful "ring" around the base of the thumb near the wrist, which can be triggered by heavy gripping, pinching, pruning, or typing. Gardening is a common cause of the pain.
